Police looking for a missing Britain’s Got Talent star have found a body in a reservoir.

Comedian Martyn Crofts, who appeared on the ITV talent competition in 2012, has been missing since Monday.

Officers searching for the 55-year-old from Skipton recovered a body on Tuesday night during searches at Whinny Gill reservoir.

The police confirmed formal identification has not been completed, but Crofts’ family has been informed.

The report stated: ‘At this stage, there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the discovery, and a file will be prepared for the coroner.’

Several tributes have been paid to Croft on social media, with friend Alicia Rose Beck writing on Facebook: ‘Martyn Crofts where do I begin, you were a light in everyone’s life!

‘You were the soul and party in Fleece!! From a local lad working at SBS to being ‘Pan man’ and getting all the way to the semi-finals!!

‘If someone were to ask me how I would describe you, the phrase “You light up the room with your smile. And illuminate the world with your heart” comes to mind, a lot of people know you from being on BGT, but to me and everyone else in Skipton you’ll always be Martyn Crofts, rest easy up there mate!!’

Another user, Liam Farrow, remembered him as ‘a top bloke. A great entertainer. A friend of the people.’

He went on: ‘He put smiles on our faces while the world was at uncertainty.

‘It was his life ambition to create smiles and happiness around him and within the community.

‘He wanted to sing and spread joy as often as he possibly could. He always had time to talk, he never had a bad bone in his body.’

‘Thanks for all the time we sang together. You gave me some fabulous memories mate x,’ he added.

Crofts impressed judges Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon, Simon Cowell and David Walliams – who was later replaced by Bruno Tonioli – on the sixth season of the variety show.

He wowed fans with his impressions, comedy act and singing, with his audition featuring a frying pan on his head while mimicking a Dalek from Doctor Who.

Dad-of-three Crofts, who had previously been working as a mortgage underwriter, made it all the way to the semi-finals.

His last performance on the show saw him singing a Doctor Who rap with the frying pan on his head again, and ‘Daleks’ surrounding him on the stage.
